THE RATIONALE FOR THE FREQUENCY OF MAINTENANCE STEERING GEAR FOR MITSUBISHI PAJERO SPORT II

Abstract. During the operation of the vehicle in the steering mechanism, noise may occur, perceived by the owners as defects. Studies have shown that noise does not always indicate a defect in the steering mechanism. Defects should be recognized gaps exceeding the permissible values in the gear engagement and between the stop and the rail. Measuring the gap between the stop and the rail, as well as the torque when the drive gear shaft rotates, is a time-consuming and expensive process, which in the absence of a defect leads to significant costs for the car owner. In order to reduce the cost of finding defects, it is proposed to measure the noise level in the steering mechanism using noise meters. It is established that in the presence of a gap in the interface of the rail and the stop value from 100 µm to 130 µm, the noise level takes values from 70 dBA to 80 dBA. Thus, the decision on the need to measure the gaps in the steering mechanism should be taken on the basis of the testimony of sound level meters obtained during the test trip with connected microphones. A list of the technical maintenance does not work on control gaps in the gear teeth and between the stop and the rail. At the same time, studies conducted in the actual operation of 15 cars indicate that 13 (87%) steering mechanisms in the interface of the stop-rail to 120 000 km appeared gap. One way to improve durability is to adjust the list of TOS. In this paper, the introduction of mandatory measurement of the noise level in the steering mechanism is proposed and its optimal frequency is calculated. The data obtained will allow the service consultant to accurately calculate the cost of repair work for communication to the owner and plan the work of mechanics. This study also has a practical application in the conduct of technical examinations by independent organizations.
