Abstract. Industrial production is the backbone of the Russian economy. According to Rosstat, in 2020–2024, the share of gross value added (GVA) of industrial activities remained at the level of 28–30% of GDP. In the context of the subjects of the Russian Federation, the contribution of the industry to the creation of regional added value differs significantly. In particular, in the Republic of Dagestan, the GVA of industrial production was 4,7% of GRP in 2023, and 84.8% of GRP in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. At the same time, the efficiency of industrial production in the regions is also very different. Obviously, the development of proposals for the development of industrial production in the regions of the country requires a differentiated approach. The article presents the results of a statistical and economic study of the influence of economic and technological factors that determine the development of industry in the regions of Russia, where a powerful industrial base has been formed. In order to objectively assess the interrelationships, the regions are divided into groups, depending on the share of GVA produced in industry in the gross regional product.

The research objectives include: theoretical substantiation of the choice of determinants (factors influencing changes in the results of industry development); formation of a system of factor indicators available in government statistics on industrial production; calculation of correlation coefficients, construction of regression models estimating the influence of the most significant factors on the variation of the index of physical volume of industrial production in industrially developed regions of the country. Based on the results of the study, an economic interpretation of the results of correlation and regression analysis is presented, and conclusions are formulated.

The information base of the study includes Rosstat data on industrial production in Russia for 2020–2024, correlation and regression analysis of regional indicators was performed for 2023. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the author’s approach to identifying the determinants of industrial development, to building a system of statistical indicators that make it possible to quantify the dependence of the index of the physical volume of industrial production on economic and technological factors, as well as to identify the most significant factors of industrial development at the regional level. It is recommended that the results of the study be taken into account in practice when adjusting industrial policy in Russia.

Key words: physical volume index, industrial production, grouping, industrially developed regions, regression analysis, factors, determinants.
