Abstract. In this article the author presents results of the analysis of the formation of the sociocultural paradigm of innovation research in Western and Chinese scientific thought. He points out that the content of the «innovation» category has been significantly transformed in the XX century as a result of justification of the relationship between the phenomenon and the economic dynamics of the society. Based on the analysis of research by modern domestic and foreign scientists, the interdependence of culture and innovation is substantiated. The relevance of the issue under study is due to the fact that innovation as a sociocultural phenomenon not only encompasses trends in real development, but also carries the imperatives of the future development of the sociocultural system. The purpose of the study is to unleash the potential of the sociocultural approach in philosophical reflection of the cultural specificity of national innovation systems. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive methodology has been applied, including sociocultural, systemic, systemic-structural, dialectic, structural, and structural-functional approaches. Value-based, cultural, and hermeneutic approaches have contributed to the study of the relationship between understanding of the phenomenon of innovation and sociocultural realities. The sociocultural approach as a whole contributed to the understanding of innovation in the unity of culture and sociality as a sociocultural phenomenon. Textual materials were studied according to the principles of integrity and structurality, as well as using methods of comparison, analogy, synthesis and analysis. The systematization of the work of domestic and foreign authors in the areas of research on the sociocultural phenomenon of innovation was carried out. The author points out that the formation of the sociocultural paradigm of innovation research is objectively determined and meets modern scientific practice of the interdependence of social and cultural. The specificity of the philosophical interpretation of the concept of «innovation» in Chinese science is associated with the etymology of the term itself, reflecting its procedural nature. An analysis of the content of the concept brought forth a close relationship between culture and innovation. The article presents the methods which can be used for measuring the influence of national cultures on innovation. The analysis of the existing methods indicates that in order to identify the specifics of traditional national culture and to analyze its impact on innovation, it is necessary to use a synthesis of the Western culture measuring methods (G. Hofstede, R. Inglehart et al) and the Chinese practices, which are based on Confucian principles of traditionalism, medianity and complementarity of Yin-Yang philosophy (T. Fan, Y. Hong et al).

Key words: innovations, culture, sociocultural paradigm, methods of measuring cultural differences, Hofstede model, Confusions values and innovativeness.
