Nikolay Nikolayevich holds the honorary title of «Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation», has been awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the «Honored Worker of the Russian Automobile Transport Union» badge, and the jubilee badge of the Ministry of Transport of Russia «200 Years of Transport Education in Russia». Nikolay Nikolayevich has also received a letter of gratitude from the Governor of the Orenburg Region for his fruitful scientific work, the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Economic Development, Industrial Policy, and Trade of the Orenburg Region, Certificates of Honor of the Russian Automobile Transport Union, and a diploma as a laureate of the Orenburg Region Governor's Prize for achievements in science and technology in 2009.

Nikolay Nikolayevich is the author of over 400 scientific and educational works in the following fields: technology and organization of passenger transportation by road, maintenance and repair of rolling stock; Friction, wear, and lubrication of components and assemblies; quality management; certification; regulatory framework for motor vehicles.

Yakunin N.N. supervised the defense of two doctoral and six candidate dissertations.
