Absract. The purpose of the article is to analyze the methodological foundations of sociological, ideological and political concepts of pluralism. It is possible that goals of this nature may not cause enthusiasm among rationalist philosophers. Of course, such a dismemberment of aspects of the same term can cause a negative reaction from the most progressive-minded specialists in the methodology. Nevertheless, we allow ourselves to insist on this. The history of the issue. In the light of the problem under consideration, Leibniz and Hegel seem to us the most significant figures. As for political realities, the number of both the characters themselves and their opinions is not calculable. Among modern philosophers, one can name Feyerabend, who, in accordance with his desire to shock the scientific community, somewhat exaggerated Popper’s views and transferred the problem to a methodological plane, which, in fact, does not contradict Popper’s concept. This turned out to be quite enough for foreign authors to ignore such an extravagant decision, and domestic authors did not want or were not interested in such a turn of affairs. The current state of the problem. In modern Western and Russian literature, as far as its analysis allows, no one has turned to a similar formulation of the question in this perspective. This is more correct than we can judge about it, since philosophy and ideology are completely different things in the modern state of intellectual life: philosophy is a servant of ideology, ideology is a misrepresentation of philosophy. Novelty. An understanding of the subject aspect of the method of alternatives is associated with the ontological principle of pluralism. From the author’s point of view this principle is compatible with both materialistic and idealistic views on the unity and diversity of the world. It is argued that dynamic multi-quality reality is the objective foundation of the method of alternatives. Besides, dynamic multi-quality reality is expressed by the idea of alternativeness. We believe that the application of the methodology of alternativism can give a fresh look at the realities that have developed in the scientific community. It is a prerequisite for constructive discussion, but at the same time, it is not a self-sufficient imperative.

Keywords: scientific method, thingness, idea of alternativeness, ontology, pluralism, harmony, negation.
