The actual problem of managing the labor market in the region is to increase the efficiency of the use of human resources. In connection with this, the subject of research is the demand for labor and its supply. The ratio of the number of employed and unemployed determines the potential for the development of the region’s labor market.

The purpose of the article is to study the imbalance in the demand for labor and its supply in the Orenburg region based on an analysis of tensions in the labor market. To achieve this goal, the characteristics of tension in the labor market of the Orenburg region were analyzed in the long-term dynamics: the absolute and relative chain and basic changes in the average annual number of employees were estimated; the dynamics of those who sought and found work with the assistance of employment centers; change in the tension coefficient in the region’s labor market.

The results of the study can be used for monitoring in order to regulate the development of the regional labor market in the Orenburg region and the formation of an effective system of interaction between employment centers and unemployed citizens looking for work.
